Although the media has touted Alabama's 2019 abortion law as the “toughest in the nation,” the legislation is a standard, run-of-the-mill regulatory bill with enough loopholes to kill every baby in the womb.
Here are the facts about H.B. 314, which Gov. Kay Ivey signed into law on May 15, 2019.
The Alabama law (2019):
The hype surrounding the Alabama law was not based in reality. The entire exercise was a waste of time and energy for anyone who wants to stop the slaughter of innocent babies.
But even if Alabama's so-called “ban” squared rightly with the U.S. Constitution, and provided equal protection to all babies, it wouldn't matter. Republican Governor Kay Ivey stated she would not enforce it. In signing the bill, Gov. Ivey said, “we must always respect the authority of the U.S. Supreme Court,” even when its opinions unconstitutionally sanction murder.
To truly end abortion in their state, Alabamans need a governor who will take care that the laws are faithfully executed. And they need to elect legislators who will write laws that provide EQUAL PROTECTION, as required by the U.S. Constitution. No child should be treated as less than human.
